Grading , Homework , & Late Work Policies

Grading

  • Please remember that I don't give grades. Students earn them by turning in work on time and that shows neatness, completion, accuracy, effort, and creativity.

  • Both English and Social Studies are graded on a point system where each assignment is given a certain amount of points.

  • At the end of the grading period, the points will be added up and then divided by the total number of points (a.k.a. average/mean).

      100% - 94% = A

93% - 90% = A-

89% - 87% = B+

86% - 84% = B

83% - 80% = B-

79% - 77% = C+

76% - 74% = C

73% - 70% = C-

69% - 67% = D+

66% - 63% = D

63% - 60% = D-

59% or below = F

English

  • In English, grades are not weighted.  Points are assigned to various assignments in the following categories on Q: Assessments, Classwork, Writing, Homework, Turn-In, and Participation.

  • Assignments that require more time to be graded by the teacher will receive one point for submitting on time called a "Turn-In Point" to help communicate that the assignment was received.  Final points for the assignment will be awarded once all the grading has been completed.

Social Studies

  • In Social Studies, grades are not weighted. Points are assigned to various assignments in the following categories on Q: Assessments, Classwork, Projects, Homework, Turn-In, and Participation.

  • Assignments that require more time to be graded by the teacher will receive one point for "Turn In" or "Submission" to help communicate that the assignment was received.  Final points for the assignment will be awarded once all the grading has been completed.

Guided  Studies 2018-2019

  • In In Guided Studies, students are graded with a simple "pass" or "no pass" based on cooperation, completion, and effort given during class.

Homework

  • Please do your homework all the time.

  • Please give your best, good-faith effort.

  • Please write your homework into your Student Planner/Assignment Notebook.

  • Please check this website regularly.

  • Ask clarifying questions before you go home, or stop by after school and I'll be happy to review anything that may be unclear to you.

Late Work

  • If work (quizzes, tests, projects, classwork) is accepted late, points will be deducted from the overall assignment in increments of 10 percentage points at a time.

  • Late homework assignments will receive 1/2 credit up to one day after the assignment is due.

  • If work (quizzes, tests, projects, classwork) is later than an extended deadline discussed per individual basis, it will receive 1/2 credit.

  • Trimester deadlines are true deadlines--I cannot add grades past the deadline.

  • I need students to communicate with me to keep me informed of their situations with excused absences and discuss a reasonable deadline that works for both the student and teacher.
